Let's have a real talk about hair quality and what's really going on behind the scenes in our industry. This has actually been a dirty family sercret for about 2 years now and its time we had a zoom meeting to chat about it.
When it comes to hair extensions, the truth is there aren't any strict guidelines or standards for how hair is processed. This means that the quality can vary wildly, even from the same company. Even from some of the top hair extension companies in the industry. One batch might be perfect, and the next could be a nightmare. It's frustrating, especially when we’re investing in what’s supposed to be top-notch hair for our clients. Let's also consider that when a new product such as flat or genius wefts are not only new to clients and stylist but new to the companiey itself, so tweeking of the weft construction may be necessary on their end to be sure that attachment is as
strong as the machine or hand tied wefts.
There are some factors that have effected some compaines ability to show up with the same quality as before. The popularlty of hair extension and the explosion of curly options has effected the suppliers of the hair extension companies . Leaving them with two options. allow that particular colr and texture to remain out of stock or source a lower grade of hair and hope for the best. Without consistent industry regulations, some companies cut corners during processing—using harsh chemicals or mixing in synthetic fibers—to save money. And guess who ends up dealing with the fallout? We do. We’re the ones who have to face our clients when that expensive hair doesn’t live up to the promises made.
That’s why it’s so important to choose suppliers who are transparent about their sourcing and processing methods. We need to hold them accountable and demand better standards across the board. Because at the end of the day, our reputation is on the line just as much as theirs. In the mean time here a few things you can do. First, familiarize yourself with the companies return policy. Second, as a hairstylist, stop ordering online and create a realationship with a repsrenative from the company. That way you get 1st dibs on when the hair comes in. Third, Follow at home instructions to the letter. Lastly, give yourself more time to order the hair to avoid your favorites from being out of stock.
